Terms of Service

1. What Decoded Is

Decoded is a free web tool that uses AI to analyze Terms of Service and Privacy Policies and present them in plain English. We also offer a browser extension that does the same thing as you browse.

2. No Account Required

You do not need to create an account to use Decoded. We do not collect your name, email, or any personal information to use the service.

3. What We Collect

When you submit a URL or company name for analysis:

• We fetch and analyze the legal document at that URL.
• We cache the analysis result so future users don't have to wait.
• We do not store your IP address, browser fingerprint, or any personal identifiers alongside the analysis.
• We use basic rate limiting (based on IP) to prevent abuse. These counts are stored in memory only and reset daily.

We do not use cookies, trackers, analytics scripts, or any third-party tracking on this website.

4. AI-Generated Content

All analyses are generated by AI (Claude by Anthropic). The output is informational only and is not legal advice. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any analysis. Always consult a qualified attorney for legal decisions.

5. How Analyses Are Stored

When a document is analyzed, the result is cached in our database so it can be shared via URL and shown on the homepage. Cached analyses include:

• The URL that was analyzed
• The AI-generated analysis (risk score, red flags, etc.)
• The scraped document text (used only if re-analysis is needed)

Analyses are associated with the URL, not with any user. Anyone with the link can view a cached analysis.

6. Third-Party Services

Decoded uses the following third-party services to function:

• Anthropic (Claude API) — to perform the AI analysis. The document text is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Jina Reader — to fetch and convert web pages to text. The URL you submit is sent to Jina's service. See Jina's Terms.
• Render — our hosting provider. See Render's Privacy Policy.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use automated scripts to submit bulk analysis requests
• Attempt to overload or disrupt the service
• Misrepresent Decoded's AI-generated output as professional legal advice

8. Intellectual Property

The Decoded name, design, and code are the property of their respective owners. The analysis output is generated by AI based on publicly available legal documents and is provided freely for personal, non-commercial use.

9. Limitation of Liability

Decoded is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of this service, including reliance on AI-generated analysis. The maximum liability for any claim related to this service shall not exceed the fees you have paid to Decoded in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted to this page. The effective date at the top will be updated accordingly.
